Founded in 1966 as Lake Air Pee Wee Football, as an
alternative to the ages and weights of Pop Warner, through
grants from local foundations, donations from local
businesses, and cooperation with the City of Waco, Lake
Air Pee Wee Football built the 2 field complex complete with
concession stand in 1968 that still houses Heart O' Texas
Youth Football today. .
Lake Air Pee Wee Football added the use of the Northwest
Waco Optimist Club field at the height of it's popularity in the
mid 1970's.
With the advent of soccer in the area, youth football saw a
steady decline in the early 1980's. The Pop Warner program
folded and left Lake Air Pee Wee Football the only youth
football program in the greater Waco Area for a 2 year
period. At it's low point in the late 1980's Lake Air Pee
Football was left with four teams (two in each age division)
and attempts were made to inter league with the old Pop
Warner teams.
In the early 1990's the sitting board made the decision to
provide equipment to all players and to allow expansion into
local towns. This revitalized the program and McGregor
became the first expansion team and the wheels were set in
motion to expand Lake Air Pee Wee Football to become
more than just a Waco League.
By the mid 1990's Lake Air Pee Wee Football had
expanded to include the McGregor, Bosqueville, China
Spring, Robinson, Mart, Riesel, Fort Worth, and Hubbard
areas.
By the year 2000, the decision was made that the name
Lake Air Pee Wee Football no longer expressed the
geographical areas served by the league. In 2001 the name
was officially changed to Heart O' Texas Youth Football, Inc.
Since that time, the league has expanded to include the
Connally, LaVega, and Midway areas as well.
